Mommy and I brought Mama out for dinner that night. We went for the Nonya buffet at Straits Chinese, near Bugis. It's $18.88++ per person, coming up to about $25/pax, including tea, hand towel, the usual.
The two Nonyas complained that it's not nice, obviously because it is not up to their standard. Or up to Mama's standard, since Mommy can't cook for nuts!
I enjoyed the non-Nonya food, as I cringe at the thought of eating Buak Keluak. In case you have no idea, it is a fruit. And they will dig out the flesh, pound/minced it, and then stuff it back in to the shell. And then cook it.
I suppose I don't like anything with shell, well, except eggs.
That said, we didn't enjoy it that much because the food was tad too cold. I suppose everything is ready in the kitchen, and when we order, they'll just serve it.
Clockwise (starting from the 12 o'clock position) - Babi Pong Tay, Buak Keluak, Sambal Timun, Chap Chye, Kuih Pie Tee, Popiah Goreng and Nogh Hiang, Ayam Goreng, Sotong Tumis, and Assam Pedas in the middle.
Cendol.
Kueh salat ❤ and kueh ko swee.
After which, we went to the Marina Barrage. It's Mama's first time there. She kept saying that my cousins are very kesian (poor thing, I can't think of a better translation) because their father/our uncle, didn't not bring them out.
I kept emphasizing that our parents are the same. But I don't think she'll remember.
She'll say that our Grandpa will bring the children out for car rides etc. But my uncle doesn't. She didn't realise that it's the same for every one. I've never met my Grandpa. That night, I had a sudden thought that he'll dote on me most since I'm the first granddaughter. Hehe. Mommy agreed. Then there was a brief silence in the car.
Oh!! And I have to remember, Cheryl as well, not to wear too "little" when meeting Mama. Cause when we were in the car, she looked at the youngsters, and commented how little they were wearing. So gerli (not girly, but disgusting?? I really suck at translating). But you get my drift. "Like never wear clothes... Shorts so short", all in Malay of course.
Mommy will say that they dress like that too when they're our age, but obviously, Mama didn't listen again. Same conversation happened many times.
Marina Barrage was very crowded that night. I'm quite surprise, we managed to take pictures without capturing other people. The car parks were full, and there were cars parked along the roads to the Barrage.
Kites...
And day, I finally remembered to bring the card to Mama's house to pass it to my cousins for them to give it to Godma. It was her birthday card, and guess what, her birthday is in March!!
That's the four of us. I've got red polka dot dress, like Minnie Mouse, and a big red bow. I requested for it. Lil cousin Desiree drew it.
